I had a similar situation in plant phys. when my partner had a breakdown and quit halfway thru the class. We were doing an experiment that counted for a fair chunk of the final mark. The profs were not too sympathetic, but I managed to pull it off. Ran into her years later and she was very apologetic.

When did we turn into America? FFS this lady should grow up and take some responsibility for her own failings and stop the bullshit excuses.
