Brains of liberals, conservatives structured differently: study

So I guess that conservatives are a bunch of pussy?!?

They were gonna include the separatists in this study but they couldn't find any with a brain.

Makes sense. But I wonder how biased the researchers were. Are those the only brain differences they found or even looked for? And was the survey the subjects took as crude and biased as that CBC compass thingy?

Also the article says this is new research. I read about this already some time ago.

So from now on we shouldn't vote, we should just get our brain scanned to figure it out.

This study scares me.

Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.

The two most important events in all of history were the invention of beer and the invention of the wheel. The wheel was invented to get man to the beer. These were the foundation of modern civilization and together were the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:

1 . Liberals
2 Conservatives.

Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet, so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were formed.

Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BBQ at night while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as the Conservative movement...

Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off the conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal movement.

Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. They became known as girlie-men. Some note worthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats, the invention of group therapy, group hugs, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to divide the meat and beer that conservatives provided

Over the years conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by the jackass for obvious reasons.

Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare.. Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of their women have higher testosterone levels than their men. Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also bat.
Conservatives drink domestic beer, mostly Bud or Miller. They eat red meat and still provide for their women. Conservatives are big game hunters, rodeo cowboys, lumberjacks,construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police officers, engineers, corporate executives, athletes, members of the military, airline pilots and generally anyone who works productively.

Conservatives who own companies hire other conservatives who want to work for a living.

Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in Europe when conservatives were coming to America .. They crept in after the Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for nothing.

Heard this joke before and am convinced that the type of people who find this appealing are a bunch of adolescent boys, 40-year-old virgins or bald,flabby over-the-hill has-beens who need to circulate these type of things to make up for their own masculine insecurity. Notice all the childish idlozation of hunting and excessive meat-eating and beer-drinking, as if those are positive traits, but are all phony superficial symbols of masculinity. Especially interesting is how this joke post identifies unionized tradesmen among its list of conservatives. And then there's the factual error that "liberals" remained in Europe while conservatives "tamed" America. The people who left europe identified themselves as "liberals" and those who stayed in Europe to uphold the existing order identified themeselves as "conservatives". "Liberal" means change; "Conservative" means opposed to change; thus the liberals left Europe for change. Both the modern-day liberals and conservatives are descended from those early liberal settlers (now called 'classic liberals'): the modern-day liberals believe change is continous and what they are doing is a continuation of what those early pilgrims and founders started, while modern conservatives believe that change was a one-time deal enacted by the founders and no further change is required. In any society there will be liberal and conservative forces.

Regarding the news article, I think it would be really interesting to study the cause-effect relationship. It seems that socieities can sometimes make massive switches from left-wing to right-wing ideologies, so it would seem unlikely that idelology is determined at birth; also countries like Canada are decidedly middle-of-the-road and most European countries are decidedly and consistently liberal so we would need some examination of brain physiology in those countries and an explanation as to why they differ.

Personally, I think the physiology (assuming it's true) is a result of the personal experience and ideology, rather than the other way. It's obvious conservatives are more fearful (of terrorists, immigrants, crime, change, foreign threats, etc.) and have a harder time grasping abstract ideas like "the common good","social value" etc. They tend to prefer defining problems in simple terms that have solutions (e.g. "crime occurs because criminals aren't punished hard enough").

BUT...here is the big thing:

I think these "conservative brains" can easily be present in people who identify themselves as liberal, particularly on the fringe of the liberal party. Because what we're really talking about is a way of thinking and feeling, not about one's predispotion to a particular issue. For example, legalized abortion and marijuana could very well have been framed along conservative values of individualism, if certain historical events had ocurred differently; Feminism became a movement before individualism did, and adopted legalized abortion as "left wing" issue and therefore an anti-conservative issue. A


Also, while someone with this so-called "fearful" mindset or outlook would likely be more attracted to conseravtive values, it's probably just as likely to distrust conservatives if the person were raised and comfortable in a liberal setting since the conservative values would be seen as threatening new ideas. I've met countless phony liberals who can spout off all the popular left-wing talking points on the big issues, but it's obvious that they don't really understand the theory and values behind those ideas, they're just reciting blindly and when challenged to think about a new issue that they hadn't heard about before, they seem to gravitate toward "conservative" ways of thinking (i.e. black-and-white, hero vs. evil-doer, no-mercy-for-the-wicked type of thinking). I think alot of left-wing "radicals" in particular may really be ppl with "conservative" brains who have been socially programmed to identify with the left-wing.

If you let the social issues out of the equation, it's quite the contrary. I'm talking more about Quebec here but I think it can be the same thing in the ROC. Here, the "progressives" want to stay in the 60-70's, the glorious days of the unions and strong government while the "conservatives" want to change for a more realistic ideal.

The unions are for the old statu quo while the entrepreneurs are for advancement of society.

...and the corporations and government stand in BOTH their paths. Entrepreneurs and unions could happily co-exist and prosper if not for the corporations and governments. They stir the conflict, pitting workers and innovators against one another. It's a bullshit game.
