If the Americans were like the Swiss, they could be trusted with guns too. But they aint. And we aint either.

Switzerland is the perfect example that 'guns don't kill people, people do' and that it is the socio-economic factors that are the real problems.

And as long as those socio-economic (and cultural) factors are playing out in the US, more guns means more people using them to kill people.

Nope. You can't trust Americans with guns. Because when the government comes to take those guns (for good reasons, of course) we have a tendency to get all uppity about it.

So the fact that you don't trust us with guns brings a smile to my face. Really, it does.

If the Swiss had the same problem with Jamaican gangs, Asian gangs, Latino gangs, East Asian gangs, Eastern European gangs, etc that the rest of the world does, then maybe their example would be relevant. As it is their example is only relevant to themselves.

So give me the numbers...
...how many people (law abiding, don't include gang members protecting themselves from other gangs, or law enforcement) in the USA save their lives, per year, because they had guns?
...then compare that to how many lost their lives because of gun accidents or because of easy access to guns in the home.

I'm curious, I'd really like to know the answer.

That's just brilliant. This is the best reason they could come up with for gun confiscation? Yep, the next year the number of gun suicides would indeed be down. The suicide rates involving knives, drugs, Superman jumps and the like would just go up by probably the same numbers that gun suicides dropped by. So because of 300 gun related suicides, 2-3 million people have to give up their guns? So when the next three hundred people suicide with a knife, the rest of the populace will have their steak knives confiscated?

Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes, gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens.

Whenever that data is published in the newspapers, it comes out that they cost more lives than save them. That includes victims being shot with their own guns, which apparently is not infrequent.

But you could google it and let us know.

Gary Kleck, a U of Florida professor who was at one time anti-gun, composed the research for the USA and in 1995 he found that there were 2.5 million defensive uses of firearms in the USA annually and in the vast majority of those cases the weapon was not even discharged.

Back in 1996/1997 I wrote to Mr. Kleck and enjoyed a correspondence with him for a while. His information helped me to convince a Democrat California Assembly member, Deborah Ortiz, to drop a gun ban bill she was proposing at the time.

What I said: socio-economic factors.

In Switzerland, the rifle in the closet is for most of the people, a rifle in the closet that were trained with and that they train every year in case of invasion. Since it's very unlikely, it's quite just a 'long thing' in the closet.

There was a show on the History Channel about the Swiss military and it was pretty astounding. They had this one scene where they showed a man getting his TANK out of the hidden garage under his barn. Their military is very well dispersed and it's not just rifles these people have at home. Thus it's kind of absurd to entertain telling the guy with a tank in his barn that he can't be trusted with a rifle.

I saw their prisons, most of people will buy guns and use them for being jailed there.
