I read the article and it isn't actually bad news. The US is having problems and our dollar has appreciated so you expect some change there. We'll just have to suck it up.

I wouldn't say the USA depends on Canadian resources. I can't think of anything other than oil that the USA couldn't produce enough of to meet their needs. They just can't do it as cheaply as other nations.

How would one actually know something like that. That the US has mineral reserves to meet it's needs, albiet at a higher cost. You'd have to have some information about resources, which you don't.
