Simon Whitfield and Catriona Le May Doan, the first of 12,000 runners to carry the Olympic flame across Canada, have begun the 106-day, 45,000-kilometre relay leading up to the opening of the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver on Feb. 12.

I know there's an Olympic forum here and I don't know how much work it would take, but considering the origin of this web site. I'm surprised there's not an Olympic catagory in the news section. I think I'm getting the fever.

I mentioned that to trev a while back but never heard back :(
No fucking way...do you really want someone like me invading an Olympics sections...we cant get a Lacrosse section. Fuck the Olympics!!!

No one else in the country is going to pay for this fiasco...its our bill, human rights and constitutional rights on the line. The rest of Canada needs to put aside the 'Glory' of olympic gold and realize that if our free speach is squashed in BC it can happen in all of Canada for any reason. If authorities get away with this during the games it will come into play for any other controversial issue, if they think they can get away with it.

The olympic games are no longer about the athletes its about the corporate sponsors, when they landed the bilingual officer from the CF introduced the upcoming speakers....Vanoc Minister, Coca Cola, and RBC....WTF? What about My prime minister, My premier and the Mayor of Vancouver...but NOOOOOO its was all corporate.

    OK end rant

Well for people like me who don't give two shits about the protesters and just want t enjoy the Olympic experience, I'm quite happy that the media is deciding to ignore the protesters. Not like they are sticking to the free speech zones anyways (which is certainly well within their rights).

My Country is my FREE Speech Zone...it is my Constitutional Right as Yours. My Father, My Uncles, My Cousins, and My Foster Sons, and now my Son have and still do fight for this right in the world. I will not Be silenced in my Country. The Media should be for the Country of Canada not for Corporate Sponsors...what is the use of Media if it isnt unbiased?

You dont want to hear it turn your TV and ears off or leave Canada....That is the beautiful thing about this country....we have that right, many dont and it starts with media censorship.

And thats the sad part too - the 88 Olympics in Calgary were AMAZING - too bad so much has changed since then.

With all the news surrounding the Olympics (the good and the bad) I thought it could use its own catagory on the front page, thats all

Well I guess it will be a great thread as long as I am not warned/banned for my views...and I am very opinionated

Ah what the fuck do I care anyway....Hey I want a seperate forum thread for the olympics cuz it will be taking the forum over if not. Lets get Trev on this. All pro and anti olympic allowed. :D

    It will be fun

I don't care about it either but the time to stop it has passed. The NDP and the Libs pushed for this and BC and the feds are going to be paying for it, probably for a long time. Disrupting and forcing the security teams to work extra is just going to make it drag on longer and cost more money.
We've got a lot of anarchists and professional trouble makers in this province and screwing around with this is their little way to "stick it to the man" but it just makes the whole thing worst. I'm going to ignore the whole freak'n circus and refuse to pay attention untill it goes away.
