Neanderthals may have been actively killed off by modern humans, scientists believe, after a skeleton buried in an Iraqi cave was found to have a man-made spear wound
Now I have read the story... Europeans were Neanderthals, and Homo Sapiens were African. How come the "whites", that originally are Neanderthals, are thinking they were (and in some cases still are) "better" than the original HS?

Is there any evidence claiming that HS's were blacks? I haven't seen any (arguably I don't know), but jsut becaus modern humans originated in africa doesn't nessesarily make them black. My thinking is that the earth itself was alot different back then, climates/life was different and it's quite possible that everyone was white or black or somewhere in between, it's also probable that there was a large diverse group of people of different colors. You raise an interesting point though as to maybe a case of prehistoric racism

Whoa there! The scientific consensus is that both Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens originated in Africa and migrated outward, with Neanderthals pre-dating Homo Sapiens and so arriving in Europe and elsewhere much earlier. Homo Sapiens are a second wave of humans to move out of Africa much later in time but are not beleived to be descendents of Neanderthals, rather "cousins" who share a common ancestor with them. DNA testing suggests that all modern humans are descended from Homo Sapiens.
The various skin colours are evolutionary adaptations to local enviroments. In southern lattitudes, darker skin protects a person from absorbing too much of the sun's rays but in northern lattitudes where there is less direct sunlight, pigment is a liability because we must absorb sunlight to produce Vitamin D. The humans that migrated areas of less direct sunlight gradually lost their skin pigmentation but still produce it in small quantities when exposed to sunglight, which we call a tan.

Well from what I read the theory is that neanderthals and european homosapiens may have mixed a few genes. But its all speculation.
Non the less Im sure non of that plays into any feelings of superiority. Most people dont go around thinking about our archaic origins. I think its more like "hey whites built industry/machines and modern science, blacks built canoes, so that must mean..."
Not all neanderthals were wiped out, some became elected politicians.
Makes you think about evolution

Don't look at me!
I was home watching TV.
