OTTAWA -- The quintessential Canadian war epic "Passchendaele" was the big winner at this year's Genie Awards, picking up six statues including Best Motion Picture Saturday, at a ceremony held for the first time outside of Toronto or Montreal.
It's not the best awards to get but it's something.
I also liked the movie, the story-line was great and meshed well but I wish there was less romance and more fighting. It seemed like most or half the movie was Paul Gross trying to score with this chick. Only a semi-good war scence at the beginning and than a good one at the end. In the middle is all this romance that atleast 1/3 or half of it should have been replaced by more war scenes. I mean if you are making a war movie. You are expected to have a lot of fighting.

Who pissed in your Corn Flakes? Are you of the 'if it isn't American, it's crap!' brigade? I guess it eluded your vice-like grasp that Canadian ? Crap?
"it's like getting a participation award at the Special Olympics"
The former is a not-unfair comment, the latter is just fuckin' ignorant. All I can say is that I find it more than a little surprising and not a little disappointing that on a forum that nominally posits that Canada Kicks Ass, Tall Poppy Syndrome lives on into the 21st Century.

Who plucked out your brain and shit in your cranium. I said it was an excellent movie numbnuts. it's worthy of an oscar or some other prestigious international award.
I thought this movie was going to be about the battle of Passchendaele, and the part the Canadians played in it. Not some hurt ass movie about Paul Gross trying to get some nookie.
I enjoyed the movie. So it wasn't as fight-filled as most American war movies are. It wasn't flashy or spectacular or about "winning" but it was still a good story. This was a very personal project for Paul Gross and he wrote and directed it they way he wanted, not the way others would want to see it. I think he did a good job and it's great that he was recognized for his work regardless of the prestige of the award.
Yes he got some nookie, was beautiful really. Knocking some nurse up in a shelled out building with rain pouring down and artillery explosions in the distance.

What a fuckin' throwback to the 1800s!
Passchendaele was like Pearl Harbour... minus most of the war scenes...
It was a bit disappointing.
