Despite a cooling economy, the B.C. Liberal government will head into a provincial election next year flush with cash and possibly wooing voters with more tax cuts.
Oh no!!!! B.C. a gas province? This is great, watch your wallets now BC,Dion will be drooling soon about your newfound wealth. The royalties will only get bigger the next few years.
Finance Minister Colin Hansen expects to rack up close to a $2-billion surplus this year on the strength of higher revenue from natural gas royalties, corporate income tax and the sale of drilling rights.
You tax things people buy. Things you want them to buy less of, you tax a LOT. (Booze, smokes, carbon) Then you cut the tax on what people earn so they can buy more stuff.
Simple. Effective, Fair.
They won't add the income taxes back. (suicidal) The NDP won't cancel the carbon tax if they win. It's Provincial politics, you don't cancel the other guys stuff if it makes a lot of money. You just bitch about it to get elected.
"tritium" said Didn't the B.S. Liberals just add a bunch of new taxes to gasoline??
Now they want to give you tax breaks..
How stupid do they think people are.. you know they will just add those taxes right back on after the election...
They cut Income Taxes, but raised(began really) a Carbon Tax. The Income Tax cut should offset the Carbon Tax. It's not the first time they have cut Taxes either, they started cutting years ago now. They will be cutting Taxes again due to the Surplus. The Liberals are the only, since the fall of Social Credit, Free Enterprise/Fiscal Conservative Party that has a chance of winning an Election in BC. The only other potential Governing party is the NDP. The Liberals are doing a fine job and all this hubbub about the Carbon Tax is just pointless whining as far as I'm concerned. Carbon Taxes, or something similar, are inevitable.
"His response to people in B.C. is 'wait and see,'" Ralston said. "It's very clear why they didn't call a fall session of the legislature; they don't have any plan for economic recovery in British Columbia."
Hard to argue that when the legislature wasn't allowed to sit!

Yup. And Dion has already stated that he won't do any deals with provinces that have a carbon tax in place already. It's tough luck if your provincial government was stupid enough to put a carbon tax in place before stephie brought it up.
So, if by some stretch of the imagination the LPC was able to win the next election, we here in BC would be granted the great priviledge of saving the world pretty much by ourselves, by getting fucked over with twice as much of the vaunted tree hugging, save the planet, socialist, carbon tax, as normal provinces.
It's a good thing that asshat Gordo ain't gonna be around after the next provincial election. Maybe he can emmigrate to California and be Arnies's personal towel boy, since he idolized him so much.
"Tracker" said I thought B.Cers are all for carbon tax. Is this not so?
The NDP is now leading the opinion polls in BC if that tells you anything. The carbon tax was not wanted especially in the north but Campbell wouldn't listen. Now he will lose his job because of it. I will vote NDP if I'm still living in BC next year.
"westmanguy" said Why isn't there a feasible centre-right political party in British Columbia? It's sad when federal Conservative are voting for the B.C. NDP.
I know, I wish there was a half decent Conservative provincial party. Hopefully after one term with the NDP Campbell will be gone and any damage done by the NDP can be reversed with another Liberal government.

Trust me I'm not voting for those bozo's. I have a long memory and can't forget succesive NDP governments that drove this province to it's knees.
There are other parties out there that I vote for, but it's not like they'll win, so I'm kinda spoiling my vote.............unfortunately.
