Cairo's International Garden municipal park denies painting black stripes on the animal.

    Good for them. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. My guess is that nobody got close enough to notice the species of the animal so, they likely went away happy that they'd seen a real Zebra.

    Maybe it was the rare, Northern Egyptian Painted Donkey-Zebra (Septemtrionis Aegyptia Pinge-Ass Equus asinus)
