Maybe NS could gain control over it's immigration process and be like Quebec. They give preference to French speaking immigrants. NS should go for Gaelic immigrants from Scotland and Eire. Both countries are in the fiscal shit and I'm sure they would get a good response.

Great - they can have Vancouver's allotment. That's what we need anyway. If we're going to take in all those immigrants, let's at least spread them out throughout the 200km wide strip of what is actually our country, never mind the frozen north.

If Quebec can pick and choose who they take, why can't Nova Scotia do the same?

That's nine years away. By that time the Maritime economy may have improved and industry may be in need of world class talents in limited numbers. Any immigration program will cater to the need for foreign talent for local businesses.

Not gonna happen. That's why all of the Nova Scotian's are in Alberta right now, and they need the immigrants to fill in the gap.

Ah it doesn't work that way Brock. Many Quebec immigrants are Russian, Bulgarian, Slovak etc. Then there's Haitians, Moroccans, Algerians etc. Not very French IMO.

Culture doesn't mean fuck all. Saskatchewan has its own immigration programs in addition to the federal ones and most of the people brought in are from Africa and the Caribbean to work as farm hands.

PEI has a similar program and most newcomers are Asians - from S/Korea/Japan/China usually brought in to work for the Pharma and Chemical companies in the region.

But I do believe every province should get to pick it's own immigration policy. It makes far more sense as provinces can pick and choose based on their own needs.

They're as French as Nigerians are English.
