So weird. Last time I heard something like this it was a couple of coyotes in banff that carried off a teenager from their tent. I remember growing up chasing off coyotes with nothing more than a stick and a wild look in my eyes. Really strange.

Odd, definitely, but not unheard of. Small animals are at the low point in their cycle (there's hardly any rabbits this year for instance), so we're going to have a few more coyote, wolf, and probably cat, attacks for the next year or two until the food chain builds up again.

It is extremely rare for a coyote to attack an adult, small children, livestock and pets yes. It is also extremely rare for them to attack as a team, there is some question as to if they were a wolf/coyote cross. Another explanation is the coyotes might have been rabid as there is a great problem with raccoon rabies in the area.

It might not have been someone deliberately feeding wild animals, but someone who threw their scraps in the bush. Either way it makes animals look at us as a source of food.

In the Los Angeles area coyotes predate on cats and dogs all the time. Once in a while they'll try to drag off a child. I've been on a few coyote shoots in the Clarksburg and Courtland area when the critters have gotten too aggressive. Seems to be about every five years they get numerous enough to get bold.
