Recent History is littered with these mistakes.

True, but is it a mistake if its intentional? The US knew full well that Hussein planned to use chemical weapons against Iranian troops and even after the first uses of tear and then mustard gas. No change in attitude towards Iraq occurred. No "knock it off, people are watching"' or a "no more intel for you!" came.

But that's realpolitik I suppose. The Reagan administration hated Iran more than it hated the actual, internationally prohibited use of chemical weapons.

So what do we do? Criticize them for what they did wrong 30 years ago or praise them for doing the right thing this time? When a government is gassing its citizens, I want the International Community outraged and to react harshly. Don’t make me Godwin this thread. :D

The same can be said for Afghanistan, the americans trained them (to a degree) and armed them and pointed them at the Soviets, and within 12 years we had to fight them.

No government should gas its own people. I think Syrian Government is about to get what it deserves.

Its easy for us to sit in judement of Reagan for assisting Iraq, however he's dead, so there's no point. I think it was was one of those I hate Iran more than I respect the treaty things...

I'd argue Americans in general hated Iran more chemical weapons - the hatred after the Hostage crisis was palpable.

Nothing much was done over the gassing of 5 000 Kurds in Halabja either. If you're pals with the CIA, it's OK to gas your opponents.

In response to this news President Obama is organizing a NATO coalition to conduct strikes on the American command and control structures responsible for this crime against humanity.

After the USSR left Afghanistan the powers that be decided to leave creating a vacum. If the Syrian Government is truly responsible they will get spanked because you can't really destroy the facilities housing the WMD's so more than likely the units responsible for launching the attacks will be dealt with.

It's easy to arm chair quarterback any President's decisions after the fact.

These accusations against the US have been flying ever since the days of the Iran-Iraq war and the picture of Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein back then was widely circulated a decade ago when the Bush Whitehouse was trying to sell the public on the Iraq invasion.

Image

Of course, the Bushites and neo-cons loudly denied this during the run-up to that war and accused everyone else of distorting the facts. Funny they cop to it now, I guess with a Democrat in the Whitehouse peddling America's next invasion, the Neo-cons forgot to renew their denial subsription on this subject. Ah well, another this will all be conveniently forgotten in 2016.

Not even news really, just another thing everyone knew which the US finally got around to confirming. All it really does is give political scientists another solid source to use when writing on why Iran acts the way that it does.

It was a day for conspiracy theories peddled as fact today. Did you see these two?

(This one might be true)

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/201 ... ezbollah-/

(This one wouldn't surprise if it was true, but they'll never prove it, or accept proof even if it walks in and slaps the collective media across the face with itself)

http://blogs.aljazeera.com/topic/egypt/ ... ood-member

And of course Canada Free Press got in on Conspiracy Day with a new angle on the truther conspiracy. Somebody didn't fill out the paper work correctly, or something, so Obama is no longer President.

Wow you all are telling me you did not know the USA backed Iraq in the Iran vs Iraq war? Are you also trying to say that you did not see the news reports about Iraq using Chem weapons to beat off the wave attacks being done by Iran? For anyone around my age or older shame on you. Those younger yeah this might be "news" to you but it was common knowlage back in the 80's when this was taking place.

The hate for the Iran regime was very very strong as it's hate for the USA was. This was one of those odd moments in the cold war when both the USA and the USSR werer backing the same side. Neither liked or wanted Iran to win. The USA was called the Great Satan by Iran and the USSR was called the Little Satan.
