I thought it hilarious on the news when they made it seem like $2K was such a huge amount of a fine. It's SFA.

Fines for excessive speeding like this should be much higher and impounding the vehicle, license suspension and hefty insurance rate hikes should also be a part of the penalty for putting innocent people at risk because you think you are king or queen of the world.

That kind of speeding should result in the driver being dragged to the nearest junkyard and forced to watch the vehicle being cubed or tossed into an industrial shredder.

Also a good suggestion!

I don't know why, aside from the usual squishes whining when actual justice occurs, this doesn't happen already. If someone gets caught waving a firearm or knife around recklessly in public, even if they have no intention of hurting anyone, they get arrested and the weapon gets seized from them permanently. This is exactly what should happen at a minimum with the worst of the reckless dangerous drivers, the vehicle gets seized and they never get it back again. There's no constitutional right to drive in Canada any more than there is a constitutional right to have a gun so hit them where they hurt by taking their toy away from them and tell them tough luck because they'll never sit behind the steering wheel of it again.

They should add some serious insult to the injury by also making the drivers pay for the cost of the destruction of their vehicles. Add that to the fine and make the punks really squirm. If there's any group of twits I have zero pity for it's street racers. If it were up to me they'd all do six months in jail too the first time they're caught.
